I have seen a lot of e-mails lately concerning cell phones and a do not call list.

The myth basically states that if you do not call a toll free number that telemarketers will have access to your cell phone number.

Please visit two sites to verify what I am about to say. The first is the FCC website and the second is Snopes.com.

Cash back on offers from today’s leading carriers such as T-Mobile, Nextel, Sprint, Cingular and more! The only wireless shop offering every carrier to be sure you find the best coverage and rate plans for you.

The FCC states that telemarketing calls to cell phones are illegal in most cases. Snopes.com is a reference site to use to dispel email myths and has proven to be reliable in the past.

These bogus e-mails can falsely state that the proposed 411 directory would make cell phone numbers available to telemarketers. The FCC has stated that even if the 411 directory for cell phones was established it would still be illegal for telemarketers to call.

Law prohibits the use of auto-dialing, pre-recorded voice or other systems to any telephone number assigned to a paging service or mobile service for which the called party is charged for the call.

There is only one do not call registry, there is no deadline for registration or cut off dates as some emails claim.

So in the end, please kill all email rumors and save bandwidth by doing research into rumors passed by email.
