Cell Phones and Parental Control

Alright, this week has been a very busy one for Brochin.net. We have added some new vendors for VOIP, Cellular, Faxing, and other features involved with networking. So I am finally making time to get to my promised follow-up on cell phones.

Last post we talked about legislation and cell phones as well as parental control over our children and technology. We referenced a post from a blog by a friend of mine, Gina Weiss. I told you I would follow up with some information on cell phones and parental control and here it is.

Many cellular plans have started to include parental controls in their plans and the cell phone itself. These controls include but are not limited to:

Incoming number block that will block specific numbers.

Downloading block to block your kids from downloading ringbones and other junk from the web.

A block on purchases from the web, such as ring tones.

Feature inactivation such as text messaging so your kids aren’t text messaging answers to each other in the classroom.

911 one-button features that allows them to push just one button to call 911.

None of these features will take the place of good old parental involvement. I offer a cell phone shopping Comparison Chart that allows the shopper to compare up to three different plans on one sheet. I currently do not have parental control features added into it, but you can easily write them in until I actually update it.

Cash back on offers from today’s leading carriers such as T-Mobile, Nextel, Sprint, Cingular and more! The only wireless shop offering every carrier to be sure you find the best coverage and rate plans for you.

If you know of any other parental control features for cell phones that I did not mention, I ask you please share them here. It will make good information for our readers and I can use it later on when I update the Comparison chart.

Well that is all for now. Our next post will be on tools and devices to make your cell phone use easier. I will give you a hint as to some of the content. Have you ever bought a new cell phone and wasted hours transferring all you contacts, numbers, and other information to the new phone from the old one. We will talk about some very cool technology that will make this easier and sooooooo much faster, and it is cheap.

P.S. If you would like a copy of the comparison chart, you can find it here http://www.brochin.net/downloads/Cell%20Phone%20chart.doc

The Beginning-Talking Cellular Phones

Brochin.net Logo Well, I would like to let you all know that this blog is not going to be your typical blog.

We are going to offer subjects that will be distributed in a series. We will be inviting guest writers to make posts and comments. We will, at times, write on some controversial subjects in the industry. We will be cross-linking to other blogs, articles, and newsletters related to our subject and the thoughts in those articles may not parallel ours.

Your views are always welcome, even if they contradict ours. Just keep the posts civil and clean. So set back, pull up a cup of coffee and let’s have some fun. Oh and remember to bookmark and add our blog to your favorites in your Internet browser.

The first series that we are going to offer is on cell phones and cellular technology. So to get started on the subject please visit the link to my website http://www.brochin.net/Cellular.htm . On this page I have some basic tips on searching for the right cellular plan to meet your needs and even offer up a FREE cellular shopping comparison chart.

This chart will help you keep track of various plans and compare them to each other so you can make the best decision as to what the right plan is for you. Take this chart to any store, sit it next to the computer when shopping on the Internet (hopefully at Brochin.net) and just fill in the blanks.

We have already made one post concerning the silly cell phone myth circulating on the web.

Our next post will be on the controversy surrounding legislation concerning cell phone use and driving. This could be a very entertaining topic. We have invited a friend of ours, Gina Weiss, to give her views on this topic. Gina is a politically active blogger who provides a very good twist on the subject of government control and regulation. We don’t always agree with Gina, but WOW, she sure makes you think and go hmmm.

Ok, I’m buckled in for this ride, so lets do it.

Cellular Phone Myth

I have seen a lot of e-mails lately concerning cell phones and a do not call list.

The myth basically states that if you do not call a toll free number that telemarketers will have access to your cell phone number.

Please visit two sites to verify what I am about to say. The first is the FCC website and the second is Snopes.com.

The FCC states that telemarketing calls to cell phones are illegal in most cases. Snopes.com is a reference site to use to dispel email myths and has proven to be reliable in the past.

These bogus e-mails can falsely state that the proposed 411 directory would make cell phone numbers available to telemarketers. The FCC has stated that even if the 411 directory for cell phones was established it would still be illegal for telemarketers to call.

Law prohibits the use of auto-dialing, pre-recorded voice or other systems to any telephone number assigned to a paging service or mobile service for which the called party is charged for the call.

There is only one do not call registry, there is no deadline for registration or cut off dates as some emails claim.

So in the end, please kill all email rumors and save bandwidth by doing research into rumors passed by email.

Welcome

Welcome to the Brochin.net blog. Over the last few months we have attempted to use various blogs and none of the them ever seemed to work out.

We feel this will be different and hope that you bookmark, or feed to our blog.

We intend to share as much IT & Telecom information as possible, at least once a week.
